Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) also known as Muriatic Acid, is a colorless or slightly yellow liquid that is toxic and corrosive. 15%, 31%, and 36% are the most common; however, Brainerd supplies concentrations from 1-36% every day.
Hydrochloric Acid / Muriatic Acid has many common uses, including:
- Manufacturing organic compounds like dichloroethane and vinyl chloride – used to manufacture PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride).
- Regulating the pH level in a wide variety of manufacturing processes – including the production of drinking water, food, and pharmaceuticals.
- Purifying table salt.
- Pickling steel – the process of removing rust and scale from a steel coil or sheet.
- Processing leathers in the tanning industry.
- Producing inorganic compounds like ferric acid.
- Lowering the pH or total alkalinity of swimming pool water to optimal levels for bathers.
- Assisting oil well production (fracturing oil wells).
- Processing various additives like fructose, citric acid, and hydrolyzed vegetable protein.
Brainerd supplies Hydrochloric Acid every day in concentrations from 1 – 36% for these and other uses.
