Glycol (specifically ethylene glycol) helps keep car engines from freezing in the winter and acts as a coolant to reduce overheating in the summer. Glycol is also used as an antifreeze agent to reduce the freezing point of many liquids and is commonly used in the oil and gas industry to dehydrate natural gas.
