Mathew became president of Brainerd Chemical in 1979 when his father was approaching retirement. Over the last 40 plus years, Mathew has worked to expand Brainerd’s product line into many new markets, which resulted in our growth from a local chemical supplier to a major chemical supplier.
As a leader in the chemical industry, Mathew has remained engaged in the National Association of Chemical Distributors. He has previously served as Chairman of the Government Affairs Committee (2009 to 2011), NACD Treasurer (2011 to 2013), NACD Vice-chairman (2013 to 2015), and NACD Chairman (2015-2017). Mathew also served as Treasurer for the Chemical Educational Foundation (2011 to 2013). Mathew has been actively involved with legislative and regulatory issues affecting the chemical industry, lobbies in Washington D.C. for the chemical industry, and has testified in front of Congress and the Surface Transportation Board.
Mathew has also served as the Chairman of the International Council of Chemical Trade Associations (2012-2014). This organization recently (2016) transformed into the International Chemical Trade Association (ICTA) and Mathew is a founding member. In his role as a member of ICTA, he understands the need for global harmonization of the chemical industry and works to represent over 9500 chemical distributors world-wide.
Because of the critical nature of transportation to the commerce of chemistry, Mathew has also served on the Surface Transportation Board’s Railroad-Shipper Transportation Advisory Council.
Mathew is committed to community involvement wherever a Brainerd facility is located. His personal interests include Catholic Charities, Chemical Educational Foundation, and his parish. Mathew is a co-owner of the Chemical Distribution Network. Furthermore, he is also a Knight Commander in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem.
Brian Miller joined Brainerd Chemical in 2017 as Vice President – Operations. His role was to manage the company’s overall operations with an emphasis on continuous improvement and process efficiencies. In 2019, Brian was promoted to Chief Operating Officer.
Brian graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1999 from Louisiana Tech University and has also earned his MBA through LSU in 2002.
Brian has spent the majority of his career in sulfuric acid manufacturing. He began his career with Arch Chemicals in operations management. Later, Brian joined Chemtrade Logistics in roles ranging from Corporate Engineering Manager to Plant Manager. There he gained significant experience in operations management, safety/compliance, quality management, and continuous improvement.
Erika Coates joined Brainerd Chemical as Chief Financial Officer in December 2009. She is responsible for planning, directing, and monitoring all areas relating to accounting, finance, insurance, and treasury of the company.
Erika attended the University of Kansas where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Business Administration and has her MBA from Oklahoma State University
Erika began her professional career as an auditor for Ernst & Young in Tulsa, OK. Throughout her career, Erika has worked in a variety of industries including construction, pharmacy, and real estate for both public and private companies. This included nine years as Regional Controller of Omnicare and its acquired company, NCS Healthcare. Erika managed the financial reporting, advising, and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance for up to 15 pharmacy locations. Immediately prior to joining Brainerd, Erika served as Controller for Williams & Williams Marketing Services. There she was instrumental in establishing a functioning accounting department, able to meet the demand of a growth-oriented company
Erika has her CPA license from her home state, Colorado. Erika’s professional memberships include the American Institute for Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Oklahoma Society of CPA’s (OSCPA), and the Tulsa Chapter of the OSCPA (TCOSCPA). Erika is currently Chair of the TCOSCPA Board having previously served as Vice-Chair, Treasurer, and Members in Industry Committee Chair.
Neil Morgan joined Brainerd Chemical Company, Inc. as President in August 2015. He is responsible for all areas of operations, sales, and administration for the entire company. Neil attended Texas Wesleyan University where he received a BBA in Marketing.
Neil began his professional career at Chemcentral in Dallas, Texas and filled a variety of jobs, including Plant Operations, Quality, Sales, Sales Management and General Manager. Additionally, he was the General Manager of their Tulsa facility before moving to Houston as Regional Sales Manager.
Neil was also Director of Sales for SolvChem and managed all the domestic sales and marketing in Houston, Texas. While in Houston, he was involved in the Houston Chemical Association and is a past President of this organization.
In addition to his current responsibilities, he is also involved with the missions group Casas Por Cristo. He travels to Juarez Mexico annually to build houses for families in need. Neil enjoys fishing and competitive sports.
Scott Rowland joined Brainerd Chemical as chief legal officer in 2018. Prior to joining Brainerd, Scott was a shareholder and director of the Tulsa-based law firm, GableGotwals, where he represented companies in business, commercial, and environmental litigation. He has also served as Brainerd’s primary legal counsel for the past 15 years.
Scott earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University and graduated with highest honors from the University of Tulsa, where he served as the editor-in-chief of the Tulsa Law Review.
